Cupcake!

To make the cupcake you will need:
Worsted weight yarn
Size G/6 (4.25 mm) crochet hook
Fiberfill, Polypellets or stuffing of your choice
Little beads to use as sprinkles J

Abbreviations I used:
ch = chain
dec = decrease
hdc = half double crochet (UK: half-treble crochet)
R = round
sc = single crochet (UK: dc double crochet)
sk = skip
sl st = slip st (UK: sc single crochet)
st(s) = stitch(es)
* = repeat directions between * and * as many times as indicated

INSTRUCTIONS

Cupcake Bottom
I used brown yarn for a chocolate cupake
R1– Ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook
R2- 2 sc in each sc around (12 sts)
R3- *1 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (18 sts)
R4- *2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (24 sts)
R5- *3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (30 sts)
R6- Through back loops only:
*Sc 3, dec 1*, repeat 6 times (24 sts)
R7- *3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (30 sts)
R8- *4 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (36 sts)
R9-12: Sc 36
Bind off, leaving long tail approx. 13 inches long for sewing to top of cupcake

Cupcake Icing :)
I used pink yarn for strawberry icing
R1– Ch 2, 6 sc in second chain from hook
R2- 2 sc in each sc around (12 sts)
R3- *1 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (18 sts)
R4- *2 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (24 sts)
R5- *3 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (30 sts)
R6- *4 sc, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat 6 times (36 sts)
R7-10: Sc 36
Continue to make the wavy edge:
R11: *3 hdc in next st, sk 1 sc, 1 sl st in next st*, repeat 12 times (thank you Jaden!)
Bind off, weave in loose end.

Sew sprinkles to icing.

Assembly:
Place the icing on top of the bottom part, lining up the stitches of the bottom part to the stitches inside the wavy part of the top (so the wavy part won’t be sewed, sew by the part right on top of the waves). Sew around ¾ of the way and fill bottom part with polypellets, beans or rice so the cupcake sits nice, and the top part with fiberfill, cotton balls or stuffing of your choice so it’s nice and soft.

Listo!

  1. Hi.

    Thanks for sharing the pattern for this cute cupcake. ^^

    I've just finished my first attempt and it looks quite nice (though I guess the brown yarn I took for the bottom is too dark). ^^;

    Anyway there is a small mistake in the pattern, I think. It says "R11 [...] repeat 6 times" but it must be repeated 12 times, right? ^^;

    Bye!
    Jaden

  9. Ohhh...so cute! I made one today for my birthday. Because I'm a beginner, it took several attempts and then I still ended up with a slightly crooked cupcake. But each time I tried this, I learned more about tension, etc. so it was a great learning experience!

    I'll make more until they come out perfect. What great little birthday greetings they will make!

    Thank you for sharing!

  10. That's it, I'm off to my local yarn/paint shop today for some yarn to make one! Too cute. I love the ones with faces on them, too! Any particular fibres you'd recommend? Wool, cotton, acrylic, etc? Not quite sure how well cotton would work, as it doesn't have the same elasticity that wool and some synthetics have.

  11. Hi! Im a crocheting begginer and Im a bit confused in round 3. Could someone please break it down for me?

  12. I loved this one! Here's my attempt: Cupcake!

    I just need to get some beading needles to do the sprinkles.

    KikiB, I used acrylic for the brown and I used cotton for the top. I love making amigurumi in cotton, it lends itself to such nice crisp stitches.

  17. Great pattern! Mine turned out a little lopsided, but that's probably because I had to stuff it with cotton balls.

  21. This is a WONDERFUL pattern! I just finished mine, to no avail it was a crooked cupcake, but the most charming crooked cupcake I've ever made! I found your instruction to be incredibly clear, and this was just too darn easy and adorable! Thank you for this!

  22. I came across your pattern a while back, but it wasn't till last night that I got the courage to try it. It was so easy I love it! Though mine came out a bit funky because I had too much stuffing in it. Also I had a difficult time sewing to two pieces together, you didn't seem to explain that enough, but I managed to figure out a way that worked rather well. Thanks for sharing this awesome pattern! I'm off to make more!

    P.S. I love your blog!

  27. I just finished this a few minutes ago and I have to say, its adorable! I had a little trouble, but I'm still a beginner. It really came together when I put the little seed bead sprinkles on!

    The bottoms a little fat but for a first attempt I'm pretty pleased!

  28. I just did this pattern, and mine looks a little funny. But I love it. I think that I might of miss counted the stitches. But thank you for the pattern!

  29. I do have a question myself-- I made one of these, and while it's adorable, I can't figure out why the bottom of the cupcake part isn't flat! I thought maybe I did it wrong at first, but the increase pattern in Rnds 1-5 is similar to that of many amigurumi animals I've made, so I know that it's going to result in a curve (either concave or convex, depending on what you do with it). Why not do increases in such a fashion that you end up with a truly flat bottom?

  30. Hi! I'm starting a crocheting buisness where i crochet things and sell them to people. I was wondering if i could use your patterns. If not, that's OK.

  31. @Diana its one single crochet in one stich then do 2 single crochet (called an increase) in the next stich after that do another 5 rounds just single crochet only no increase needed.
